Retrain your muscle memory for the walk
How to quit the ‘tug of war’ pulling cycle!
Even after training, formerly pulling dogs can be triggered to pull on leash again if we handlers start the ‘tug of war’ cycle again by inadvertently clenching up/pulling/grabbing/stiffening on our end of the leash. Folks who’ve been pulled on by their dog have had to develop a muscle memory for hanging on which makes them pull on the leash without even realizing it! And it takes time and practice for us handlers to retrain our arm muscles to relax and just hold the leash rather than gripping and handing in for dear life! So it’s super important that we handler become super aware of our own bodies and what we’re inadvertently communicating to the dog and also that we practice practice practice our new handlers skills with the remote collar to that we can quit the habit of pulling in the dog and replace it with a relaxed and soft connection through our highly specialized remote collar communication and guidance.
