I can't decide!
In training a dog learns how to defer to his handler in all situations which means leaving all the decision making up to the human leadership rather than making choices on his own.
When we have a dog with a history of naughty behaviour and bad decision making, it’s super important that we not only correct those poor choices and teach the dog how to make new better choices, but that we also removed the opportunity (the freedom) for him to fall back into his old ways.
This means that for the time being and the foreseeable future, the human in charge will be responsible for telling him what to do at all times by using the training approach and remote collar to help him follow commands and remain in a calm mindset rather than allowing the dog the freedom and opportunity to do what he wants.
There are many dogs that can be very responsible with freedom and the opportunity to make choices, but some dogs do not have that skill. So to make sure that he stays successfully on the right path, we need to make sure that he always has the benefit of consistent strong human leadership to always help him make good choices!
