Team Work

One of the big misconceptions in dog training is that the dog needs to be ‘fixed’ and once trained the human handler doesn’t have to do anything... NOT TRUE! The dog will certainly learned a great new mindset and some darn fancy skills and the ‘language’ of the remote collar which makes it easier for us human handlers to communicate with him, but it is still the responsibility of the human handler to ‘direct’ or ‘operate’ the dog.

The dog won’t do this all on his own if the handler doesn’t do their job too... it’s a team effort that takes practice and coordination to get right just like learning any other skill! Think of it like driving a car... would you expect your car to take you places on its own as you sit on the passenger’s side? NO! That would be silly!

You have to learn to drive, pass a drivers exam, turn on the car, and steer it where you want it to go... and in the beginning it feels awkward and clumsy until you practice practice practice! And just like driving, it’s important to go slow in the beginning while learning how to use the remote collar and the training to build your own handler’s skills and build your confidence. You wouldn’t take on the busy streets of NYC or the multi lane highways as a new driver... you’d take time to build your skills and work up to that... same with the dog. Go slow, practice practice practice and build your own skill set.
