Mastering the remote
Mastering low level remote collar truly is an art... even after years of practice I still find ways of getting smoother and softer and quicker. There is always room for improvement. But it sure didn't start that way. Like ever new skill that I've ever learned, it started out messy and uncoordinated. It felt awkward and foreign and I constantly felt out of sync with my dog. Much like dancing, until I could read my partner, predict his next move and trust myself enough to react without thinking... I just keep stepping on his toes.
My timing was off and so was my beat... but we kept practicing and eventually we could predict each others next move and things smoothed out. This is so normal and so common for everyone who's attempting to learn something new. You will eventually find your timing and the rhythm and then move together as one. This is the art of dancing and of remote collar work with a dog. Nobody starts out doing it perfectly... we all make mistakes because that is how we learn. As long as you are self aware and acknowledge your mistakes as learning opportunities and not dwell on them as failures you will make progress. You don't need to be the best today or tomorrow or next week. There is lots of time to master the art of remote collar... everyday you have time and opportunity. All you have to do is be the best YOU, keep trying, and focus on your successes. And eventually it will all come together 😊
