GET INCLUDED- CALM ON COMMAND

The place command aka the ‘calm on command’ thing!

Through duration work on place, dogs will learn a lot about impulse control and boundaries and that the world can carry on around him without him feeling obligated to react to it or control it through bad behaviour.

When things get busy in the house, people coming and going, meal preparation and meal times, or a bit of family fun, the best place for a formerly reactive and territorial dog is on place (holding place command in his dog bed) or in his crate so that he doesn’t get the opportunity to slide back into those bad and naughty habits when we humans are distracted or otherwise busy 😉.

When dogs are holding their place command they are NOT reacting to the door, NOT reacting to guests or family members, NOT patrolling and guarding the home, NOT resource guarding food or furniture, NOT jumping up or counter surfing or otherwise getting themselves into mischief. When dogs are holding their place command they ARE practicing impulse control and respecting boundaries, ARE minding their manners and their own business and leaving the decision making to the handler, ARE practicing a calm relaxed state of mind and keeping out from under foot. When a dog is in command holding place, the heel or otherwise working for his handler he is completely off limits meaning that we are going to keep everyone out of his personal space so that he can do his best polite work without being unfairly pressured or led astray.
