Doggy Meditation is still training

Duration work or ‘passive training’ is when you have a dog calmly hold command like place or down/stay for an extended period of time to condition their mind to be calm and their body to relax. This is a form of structure that so many of our dogs need in their day to day so that they can make good choices like keeping a calm mindset and staying out of mischief. Duration work is like doggie meditation and it is absolutely wonderful for our anxiety prone dogs who’ve gotten into the habit of worrying about the world and life in general... actually, maybe we all could use a little duration work right now during this stressful world pandemic! Duration work via the place command is going to be a big part of the dog’s day moving forward so we’ve been building an implied ‘stay’ into her place command and also proofing it with a bit of movement and distraction.
