The leash isn't a restraint

When dogs arrive for board&train they almost always have a misunderstanding of how to properly respond to leash pressure. For the majority of dogs, the leash is used as a physical restraint to control the dog which inadvertently teaches them to brace and pull against it creating over excitement and mental arousal. So to change this response from over excited pulling against the leash to instead calmly coming towards the leash, we start with our best leash communication tool the prong collar and our foundational exercises.

You’ll notice that in this video, the dog also has a scrunchy covering her prong collar and that is because dogs with pink skin are often easily irritated by anything moving around their necks... even their regular flat collars! This is a great tip for anyone who has a fair skinned doggie... as a general precaution we always use a scrunchy or headband as a cover for the prong collar so that we still get all the perks of prong collar communication without any potential chafing!
